Delray Beach Orthopedic Surgeon to Lecture on Hip Fractures, Avoiding Falls and the effects of Fosamax use.
Delray Beach, FL – For Immediate release – February 17, 2011 - Hip fractures are a common injury among the elderly. The aging process causes bones to lose density and as a result, become weak and susceptible to hip fractures. A hip fracture is a serious injury, commonly causing loss of mobility and function. Fortunately, surgery by a skilled surgeon to repair a hip fracture is generally very effective. There are also medications such as Fosamax that can help to strengthen bones, but these must be used with caution. The best remedy for a hip fracture is prevention.
Dr. Russell Weisz of South Palm Orthopedics will be giving a lecture on hip fractures, how to avoid them and will help local residents navigate the the use of Fosamax to treat bone weakening. The lecture will take place at the Delray Beach Public Library at 100 West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 2PM. Local residents who are either suffering themselves from weakened bones or who have a loved one who is at risk for a hip fracture are urged to attend.
Dr. Weisz will discuss the mechanics of the hip, the bone weakening process, avoiding falls and speak on recent warnings regarding the use of Fosamax.
"As an orthopedic surgeon who has performed hundreds of hip fracture surgeries, I feel it is important to educate patients on the dangers of hip fractures and how best to avoid them" stated Dr. Weisz. "It is also important to provide them the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about treatment options for weakened bones. I am very excited to discuss this with the local community in an effort to spare even one person the ordeal of suffering a hip fracture."
